National Geographic highlights Honduras as the birthplace of chocolate

National Geographic carried out a study where they not only describe the history of chocolate but also explain the importance of Honduras as a country of origin of chocolate.

The most delicious delicacy consumed by hundreds of people in the world in exchange for its place of origin. For decades it was thought that chocolate was originally from Mexico, however after research carried out by scientists from the University of Pennsylvania, a fact was revealed that would change history: Chocolate is of Honduran origin!

Such a discovery became evident after analyzing a bottle found at the “Puerto Escondido” archaeological site, located in the Sula Valley, department of Cortés Honduras. In this object, it was possible to identify that there were remains of a chocolate drink that had been prepared. between the years 1400 to 1000 BC.
